CHALFONT ST GILES | BUCKINGHAMSHIRE

We were asked to design gardens, with a classic French style, to compliment this extensively renovated house in Buckinghamshire.  The site was tricky.  It sloped steeply away from the back of the house and required some serious excavation to provide level seating areas.  The resulting garden is really quite beautiful and infinitely usable.  The main gardens are set back from the house, with generous steps leading off the main doors from the kitchen.  The planting comprises almost solely perennials, with roses and ornamental pear trees trained into columns as accents.  The perennials add beauty and elegance against the hard landscaping and are a riot of colour during the warmer months, as well as giving structure throughout the winter too.  The designs wrap all around the house, providing a wonderful setting for the house within its wider landscape, which stretches to 5 acres.
